Pre-Construction phase

The construction of a new offshore wind farm has traditionally required the purchase of a range of navigational cardinal mark buoys for the demarcation of the construction area. These navigation buoys are then left installed for the full construction phase, with occasional use for permanent marking once the site becomes commissioned. In addition to these AtoN buoys, wind farm operators have purchased or leased dedicated wave & current buoys to be installed alongside to collect key environmental impact assessment (EIA) data.

Using proven Aids to Navigation solutions from Tideland Signal, with Aanderaa’s ADCP current meters & MOTUS Directional real-time wave sensor, Xylem Analytics are in the unique position to be able to offer wind farm operators a completely integrated solution. By adding wave & current sensors to the cardinal mark buoy, operators not only save on the cost of buoy platforms, but also expensive installation, maintenance & recovery costs that can build up over the life of a project. Additionally Tideland Signal’s range of cardinal mark buoys can be fitted with real-time data options including GSM/GPRS, Satellite or AIS-Type 3, meaning in addition to collecting the compulsory environmental impact data, the buoys can send real-time data to operators, ports, consultants and passing traffic informing them of site conditions, improving site safety and aiding works decisions.

Operational phase

The Tideland Signal Offshore Wind Systems combine the strengths and decades of experience of Tideland Signal and other Xylem brands into a single, comprehensive Navigational Aid (NavAid) solution optimised for the offshore wind energy market. 

The best performing components of each product line were selected and tied together by a control system that offers flexibility and total control, either from a local computer or from a remote desktop. 

The remote accessibility of the system permits troubleshooting and diagnostics by authorized parties. Work instructions to perform scheduled maintenance can also be uploaded into the system remotely. Thus, the Tideland NavAid system will save you money on maintenance while increasing availability and safety. 

The system design allows for critical functions to be taken over locally to ensure that correct operation continues even in the event of a communication breakdown.

AB-560 Audiobeam® Fog Signal

AB-560 Audiobeam® is an electronically powered fog signal that automatically broadcasts a 360° beam of sound to a preselected code audible for 2NM. It is United States Coast Guard approved, complies with all IALA recommendations and is UL listed as suitable for use in Class I, Division 2, Group C and D hazardous locations.
