Water Quality Data Collection Made Easy: A Practical Solution for Continuous Monitoring

Xylem Analytics UK and Aanderaa Data Instruments have launched a new marine water quality monitor which has been designed to enable wider deployment of water quality sensors on ferries and other marine vessels.

Australia's Murray-Darling Basin contains extremely precious water resources, but presents hydrographers with a significant challenge because the area is extremely flat. Tens of thousands of square kilometres are braided by slow-flowing rivers and streams with virtually no fall in their channels. 

As the regulatory requirement to assess reservoirs and lakes expands to include smaller bodies of water, HR Wallingford, together with the Envrionment Agency Hydrometry & Telemetry, National Monitoring Service has developed a remote control boat which is able to collect hydrometric data quickly, simply, safely and accurately.

In line with the objectives of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD), a £6.2 million project in England is underway to identify sustainable agricultural practices that would limit or reduce detrimental effects on groundwater and river water quality while maintaining food production and the profitability of the farm.

Water quality has been a central theme in a redevelopment project that began with the creation of the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation in 1897.
